Make sure that your coop is properly protected against predators. Many animals will eat eggs, including animals that may be too small to take on your hens. Larger egg stealers may also kill your hens.

Some hens will also eat eggs. You’ll find remnants of egg yolk on the nest box. You can train a hen not to eat eggs but it does take some work. Your best bet is to try to prevent the problem from beginning by making sure your coop meets the size and nest box descriptions in the section on coops.

Items like pinless peepers and special nest boxes that prevent the hen from reaching the eggs after they are layed can also be used to stop the problem. Collecting eggs at least once a day and preferably more often can also be very helpful.
